About
Who We Are
The IL People for Disability PAC is a non-partisan organization founded by Pete DiCianni, a decades-long advocate for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
Pete’s advocacy began at the grassroots level, serving local families through the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (ECAF), where he served as President from 1996 to 2006. During his tenure, ECAF raised a record $1 million to provide direct assistance to families facing disabilities and life-threatening medical conditions.
In his tenth year as President of ECAF, Pete’s youngest daughter, Brianna, was diagnosed with Autism — a moment that transformed his advocacy into legislative action. In 2008, Pete authored Brianna’s Law, groundbreaking legislation that made Illinois a pioneer in mandating insurance coverage for Autism treatment, recognizing it as a medical condition deserving the same coverage as any other. The law opened doors for early diagnosis and life-changing treatment for thousands of families.
The following year, Pete was elected Mayor of his hometown, where he continued to champion disability rights. During his time in executive office, he worked with the Illinois Legislature to pass seven additional laws benefiting individuals with disabilities and cognitive impairments.

From 2012 to 2022, Pete served as a County Legislator and led the County Board. As Chairman of Health & Human Services, he prioritized housing, job training, healthcare access, special education, and public safety for vulnerable populations. He was also appointed by Governor Pat Quinn to lead the Illinois Autism Task Force, serving as an advisor to both the Governor and the Illinois Legislature.
After leaving public office, Pete launched IL People for Disability PAC to mentor and support current and future public servants who are committed to protecting and advancing policies for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.
The PAC supports leaders — regardless of political party — who are dedicated to ensuring dignity, opportunity, and access for individuals with disabilities and their families.
